Praxis 6: Agent of Change

  Agent of Change

After I graduate, I plan to go into wellness traveling. I want to get certified as a wellness/holistic coach/practitioner. I want to help women, especially women in minorities, heal themselves to be their best self. How I plan to do this is by coordinating and administering wellness retreats for them to travel to. I want to be an agent of change. An agent of change is a person who sees a problem in their community and takes actions to bring a better change. An organization that I professionally align with is "9th House of Travel." I want to be an agent of change for this company. I will review the website to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Then create a proposal of realistic changes to help support this company.

This organization “9th House of Travel” is privately owned by Avida King. It has been operating for a couple years, it is a relatively new organization. This company specializes in planning and coordinating travel experiences for personal and group trips that specialize in spiritual healing and personal well-being. They plan trips to Africa, Peru, India, Thailand, and Bali, etc. They plan trips to 50+ destinations, offering many different experiences for each destination. They plan every detail of your travel experience. Your transportation, itinerary, room and board, etc. Once the trip is planned, they are accessible 24/7 during the trip to help and answer any of your questions.

Even though there are so many strengths to this company, and it offers so many great components to customers. There are some weaknesses to the company that might hurt them.  One of the biggest weaknesses that I saw is how expensive it is for the trip. Just for the planning and coordination fee it is $500 not including the actual trip. This is understandable because this is a private company that hasn’t been in operation for more than 5 years. Now because it is a new company is also another weakness because there is not a lot of clientele and not widely known. Additionally, from the looks of the website it suggests that there is only one person planning and coordinating the whole thing, not a team of people. Which can be stressful on the owner and cause a delay in communication due to numerous clienteles.

This company can take advantage of some opportunities to increase clientele. An advantage that they could take being a small company is more advertising on social media platforms. This company needs to market more, try new and better marketing strategies to increase clientele and old customers. They need to get the word out that there is a new travel agency company for personalized needs. Social media has become such an increasingly used platform over the years. There are numerous travel agencies in many countries. They need to capitalize why people should book with them instead.

There are a lot of threats to this company. The biggest are other widely known travel agencies that have been open longer and have endorsements and sponsorships with other companies. In being so widely known these companies get a lot of clientele so their fees are cheaper. In these agencies there are numerous people on the team, which makes communication faster and more efficient. These agencies have a lot of marketing strategies; they market on tv commercials, websites, and social media. So even if people have never used a travel agency they know of some agencies.

Since this is a relatively new company and it professionally aligns with my future career, I would love to be an agent of change and propose some recommendations to actively better the company and bring in more clientele. One way I propose change is in marketing and outreach. I would advertise more frequently. Instagram offers companies to pay for advertisements to show on people’s feed. I would also ask clientele after they finished their trip to post on social media and tag them on the post. Maybe offer a rewards system, if someone tagged the company on a post or recommended someone, then they could get a small discount on their next trip. This will increasingly bring in new clientele and having returning clients.

I also propose hosting a group wellness trip. It’s advertised that they plan the events and personalize it to the client’s needs. Yet, I feel like a hosting group trip specialized to certain demographics would be good for the company. For instance, a group trip only for women with leisure and recreation activities specializing in women’s enjoyment. A couple's trip with activities in rekindling romance and bonding. These are some suggestions for specific groups to not only get new clientele but have interested clients look on the website and get to know the company. I feel like these propositions would support and bring in new clientele for “9th House of Travel”.
